Da Vinci Vandals Wreck Church in Search for the Holy Grail

From totalcatholic.com: A vicar at a fourteenth century church in Shropshire is considering upping security measures after the church was vandalised by two Italian men who had supposedly been searching for the Holy Grail after reading the Da Vinci Code. Rev Charmian Beech from St Luke’s Anglican church in Hodnet said the church has been inundated with visitors since the release of Dan Brown’s controversial novel, but this latest visit was extremely unwelcome. "Any deliberate damage to a Holy place is a serious offence so we are really upset," he told the Daily Mail yesterday. "Normally we are delighted to receive so many interested visitors but we are now having to review our security.' The novel was previously condemned by many leading figures in the Catholic Church both in England and in the Vatican.

Newspaper Article Kills Ian McKellen

Melissa writes: This editorial is really only tangentially related to "Lord of the Rings," but I simply had to share it. It's a quite touching account of a teenage boy who's recently announced he's homosexual. Naturally, Sir Ian McKellen is mentioned because of his positive impact on the perception of homosexuality in the modern day. It's just... the nature of the mention that had me in stitches. To paraphrase Mark Twain, reports of Sir Ian's death have been greatly exaggerated. [More]

Da Vinci Code sparks discussion at local church

A few community members gathered at the Christian Church of Woodland each night this week to discuss the validity of a book The Da Vinci Code. Rev. Larry Love, pastor at the Christian Church, directed the roundtable discussion during the church's Vacation Bible School. Using passages from The Bible, The Da Vinci Code and expert theologian sources he examined the novel and its claims. The book itself centers around the character Robert Langdon and his search for the secret of the Priory of Sion, a mysterious society whose mission is to protect the Holy Grail. Within it, Brown makes several claims dealing with the role of women in early Christianity, the divinity of Jesus Christ and the creation of the bible. [More]
