Marceau could be the family friend

A French newspaper has suggested that Sophie Marceau was the family friend that French President, Jacques Chirac, allegedly tried to get cast in The Da Vinci Code film. French President Jacques Chirac's office today denied a report that he pushed for a family friend to be the leading lady of The Da Vinci Code when he met with the movie's makers last year. The film's American director Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer were invited to meet the French president in December last year as they were holding auditions in Paris for the top female role. Chirac helps "The Da Vinci Code" makers, asks favors

WASHINGTON (AFP) - French President Jacques Chirac offered to help makers of "The Da Vinci Code" film in the Louvre, and suggested they cast his daughter's best friend in the leading female role, Newsweek magazine said. "We thought it was going to be a five-minute thing, like a trip to the Oval Office -- a photo and a handshake," said producer Brian Grazer of the hour-long meeting he and director Ron Howard had at Chirac's office in December 2004. Newsweek said Chirac offered to smooth out any problem they might encounter in their request to film some scenes at the Louvre -- where The Da Vinci Code's murder-and-religion mystery begins and ends. Newsweek Talks DaVinci Code!

An extensive report with Newsweek about next year's biggest film - the adaptation of Dan Brown's "The Da Vinci Code" - has gone online with new photos and some new revealtions.

It seems contrary to earlier reports that Sony planned to soften the story's more controversial elements, Director Ron Howard says there will be "no placating. It would be ludicrous to take on this subject and then try to take the edges off. We're doing this movie because we like the book".

Using the Louvre proved difficult at times - ""We had to be very specific about every single shot we were going to do, for both security and preservation reasons. There were all kinds of things we couldn't do. Blood on the floor—that's in the script and we couldn't do that. We couldn't take paintings off the walls, obviously. We couldn't write coded messages on the Mona Lisa, obviously". Thus whilst much of the Grand Gallery shooting is real, other things like the Mona Lisa are entirely replicas. [More]
